Kaspersky Lab says 140 firms worldwide face unnoticed cyberattacks

MOSCOW, Feb 8 (PRIME) -- Banks, telecommunications companies and governments in 40 countries, including Russia, have fallen victims to “unnoticed” target cyberattacks aimed at stealing money, antivirus producer Kaspersky Lab said on Wednesday in a statement.

Unknown criminals exploited only legitimate software and stored malware in the system memory without a trace to penetrate corporate networks of at least 140 companies.

“The intention of attackers to make their activity least noticeable and avoid detection is the latest trend in the development of cyber threats. Perpetrators’ use of legitimate and stored software and techniques that are neglected by traditional means of protection is becoming more frequent,” Sergei Golovanov, a leading antivirus expert at Kaspersky Lab, said.

Companies in the U.S., France and Ecuador were attacked most, Kaspersky Lab said, adding that the group of hackers is still active.

The antivirus firm will disclose a detailed research in April.
